An event was held among employees in the offices of the National Electricity Market Operator (MEMO) to mark 18 years since the founding of the Electricity Market Operator (EMO) and 5 years since its transformation into the National Electricity Market Operator (MEMO).
MEMO’s CEO, Zoran Gjorgjievski, awarded plaques to colleagues who, from the very beginning in various roles and at different times, contributed crucial dedication, professionalism, and support to the development and success of the Electricity Market Operator. The following individuals received awards: Ljubin Popovski, Ilija Bliznakovski, Elizabeta Giovska, Aleksandar Ristovski, Kiril Ackoski, and Simon Shutinoski.
Gjorgjievski emphasized the importance of each individual who contributed to MEMO’s growth. MEMO now integrates multiple functions related to managing the bilateral contract market, incorporating renewable sources into the electricity market, and since 2023, has successfully launched the Macedonian Power Exchange.
“We continue to work towards further modernization of the Macedonian energy sector by adopting best European practices in electricity trade. We are dedicated to the further development of organized electricity trading through market coupling with neighboring countries and EU member states, which will enable efficient allocation of transmission capacities and improve market competitiveness. Last month, MEMO became a scheme observer, of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), launching the process of introducing guarantees of origin, which we plan to issue starting next year. We are working hard on the successful implementation of guarantees of origin in line with the best European practices. We believe that interest will be high, as these guarantees prove the energy’s renewable origin, which is especially important for domestic companies exporting to the European market,” said Gjorgjievski, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders in the energy sector, companies, domestic institutions, and international partners who support MEMO’s work.
As a full member of Europex – Association of European Energy Exchanges, MEMO actively participates in representing the interests of European electricity and gas market operators by contributing to working groups and helping shape EU and Energy Community energy regulations.
