The National Electricity Market Operator – MEMO LLC, Skopje, has officially launched the registration process for new participants in the Intraday Market, effective today. AD ESM is the first company to be officially registered on this market, making it ready to actively participate in the first transactions within this new market segment.

“With the introduction of intraday trading, we are opening a new chapter in optimizing our own production and increasing energy efficiency. As the largest producer, we see this type of trading not just as a technical novelty, but as a strategic tool. The ability to respond instantly and procure the required quantities of electricity within the same day, in case of unexpected changes in the daily production or consumption plan, will enable us to manage system stability more efficiently and achieve better financial results. I am confident that intraday trading represents a strong and liquid market, which is a pillar of modern energy systems. With the introduction of this segment, MEMO becomes our complete partner and the most relevant market mechanism aligned with European standards,” said Lazo Uzunchev, General Director and President of the Management Board of AD ESM.

The CEO of MEMO, Zoran Gjorgjievski, emphasized that interest among electricity market participants is high and expects new companies with recognizable names to join the market in the coming days.

“The Intraday Market will officially launch on May 6, enabling greater efficiency in electricity trading. This market will provide participants with additional flexibility, greater precision in portfolio balancing, and the opportunity to trade closer to real time, which is an essential prerequisite for modern and efficient operations,” Gjorgjievski stated.

In January this year, MEMO and the BSP Energy Exchange LLC signed an agreement for the establishment of the Intraday Market. The Slovenian power exchange BSP and EPEX SPOT were selected as nominated electricity market operators to provide trading and clearing services for the electricity markets in the Day-Ahead Market segment, which has been successfully operating since May 2023, as well as for the implementation of the Intraday Market.

With the support of partners, the Government, and the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, MEMO remains committed to developing a transparent, reliable, and efficient electricity market, as well as full integration into the European market.
