The first meeting with the Grexel team was held to ensure the successful implementation of issuing Guarantees of Origin (GOs) by the National Electricity Market Operator – MEMO. These guarantees are the sole proof of the origin of electricity produced from renewable energy sources.
Based in Helsinki, Grexel is a European leader in issuing energy certificates, with an annual transaction volume exceeding 1 billion MWh. In response to market and regulatory demands, and in cooperation with the Energy Community, North Macedonia is adopting a national registry developed by Grexel, already successfully implemented in 22 countries.
MEMO’s expert team and Grexel will continuously work on all processes until the final implementation of the system for issuing and transferring Guarantees of Origin, expected to be completed in the first half of this year. These guarantees are particularly important for domestic companies exporting to the European market. Additionally, MEMO has been actively working for several months to ensure the successful issuance of GOs and has become a scheme observer member of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB).
