EE MARKET

The main goal of the electricity market is to provide equal access to all stakeholders in the energy sector, while promoting competition in a non-discriminatory manner in order to achieve a realistic picture of the price of energy products. The electricity market can be divided into two segments:

WHOLESALE MARKET

WHERE PARTICIPANTS ARE ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING BY ENTERING INTO TRANSACTIONS IN THE EE MARKETPLACE.

RETAIL MARKET

WHERE PARTICIPANTS CAN CHOOSE A SUPPLIER TO SUPPLY THEM WITH EE

Wholesale EE Market

The wholesale electricity market includes the market with bilateral contracts, the organized market, namely the day-ahead market and the current day market, as well as the balance energy market.

As of July 1, 2019, the wholesale electricity market has been fully liberalized, which means that all market participants can enter into mutual agreements for the purchase and sale of electricity without prior approval. As of January 1, 2020, the balancing energy market began to function in accordance with the Rules for Balancing the Electricity System. It remains to establish the organized electricity market. MEMO is responsible for managing the bilateral contracts market and the organized electricity market, while the balance energy market is under the competence of MEPSO.

EE Retail Market

The retail electricity market covers the purchase and sale of electricity between electricity suppliers and their consumers who are not participants in the wholesale electricity market (households and small consumers). These consumers, after the full liberalization of the electricity market in 2019, have the opportunity to enter the free market and have the right to freely choose an electricity supplier.

In order to help the small consumers when choosing a supplier and to enable them to be more informed and clearly compare prices, on the following link is a price comparison platform on the Macedonian retail electricity market switch.mk.
